Fall 2006

A quarterly publication by fiction author Bella McFarland

Hey Ladies,

Oh, summer went fast.  Hell, the whole year just zoomed past while I moved around like a zombie.  I guess that’s what happens when you have five children.  You get yanked in five different directions.  Make that six directions since darling husband has to have his too.

It’s been months since I wrote a newsletter.  It’s been a crazy year.  TIMELESS DEVOTION came out in 2005 and I went through a period when I couldn’t write.  I just got too busy with my babies.  My last one just turned two, phew.  No one told me taking care of five children and a husband and TRYING to write just didn’t work.

Anyway, before I knew it, it was summer.  I hate summers. Hate balancing different schedules, driving and dropping kids back and forth.  You didn’t sit down long enough before you have to pick one up.  Seriously, someone needs to tell folks around here about all-day summer camps, not two-three-hours ones.  At least this year we did a bit of traveling.  We made it to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for our yearly family reunion.  I even got to hook up with one of my online critique partners.  When we got back, we were off to Disneyland.  Hot, hot, hot, and expensive.  We a;; had a ball.  But someone ought to have told me not to go on Space Mountain, though.  I almost had a heart attack.  Hate damned rollercoasters.

Anyway, I hope fall 2006 is not as wet and miserable as it is up here in Utah.  I’ve been running three-four times a week, six in the morning, and had to stop because of the rain.  It was something I enjoyed doing with my oldest daughter, so I hope the weather improves.

Thanks so much for your response to my 2005 release, TIMELESS DEVOTION. I love to hear how much you're enjoying my stories.  I'm giving the Taylor family (ONE DAY AT A TIME and TIMELESS DEVOTION) a break for now.  But I promise I will finish the other stories (Mel’s and Aaron’s).

I’ve started a new series. I've been writing up a storm, usually between 10.00p.m and 1.00a.m in the morning. The first three books feature three strong women in the Satchel family. All are cousins and each has a story to tell.  One deals with secrets, the other with unsolved murder, and the last lies.  The first two are completed, but I’m still working on the third one.  Check out the excerpts and the surprise scenes at the end of each chapter.

As to when these books will be out, I’ll keep you posted.  I’m shopping for a new publisher but hope to net an agent first.  It’s crazy that even after three books, finding an agent is so difficult.  I sent out fifteen queries, got a few who were interested but none bit.  Next week, I’m throwing more baits…  I’ll keep you posted.

I’ve revamped my website…about time, if you ask me.

Any aspiring writer out there, I have a page for you—Links to websites with articles on the craft of writing a romance novel, publishers and their submission guidelines, online English language sites, and agents.  I even linked you to a website with a breakdown of how much advances and royalties publishers pay their authors.

I have a Just for Fun page with recipes some of my heroes use.  Let me know what you think.  I’ll have a contest in a few months, so keep checking.

Well, that's it for now. Be sure to keep writing to me. I appreciate all your emails.

Until next time, happy reading!
